Using the pen with a book

The Starter Set is expensive. Is it worth it?

The Starter Sets include the magical electronic pen.

You only need to buy the pen once, it will work across all Tolki books and stickers. We will replace it if it has any defects (that are not due to improper usage), so it should last for years and years and grow with your child!

The pen is also rechargeable, meaning no additional costs for batteries.

How do I turn the pen on?

The pen has a large 'play' button in the front. Press it for a few seconds until you hear the welcome beep and the lights of the pen flash

What functionalities does the pen have?

The pen has 3 buttons: Turn on/off, 'Play and volume control

The pen also has an outlet for the charger plus an outlet for headphones
(headphones are not included)

The pen can also record and store sound for the Tolki stickers

How do I upload book content on the pen?

The pen comes pre-loaded with the content of most available books.

IIf you cannot log into a book with the pen as it says 'content not available', simply connect your pen to your laptop with the provided cable and download the respective file from our website. Drop it into the tolki folder (when the Tolki pen is connected to your laptop) and you should be good to go in a few seconds!

What do I need to do to use the pen with a Tolki book?

Step 1: Turn on the pen (see separate FAQ if you need help with this)

Step 2: Log into the book by tapping with the pen on the 'login' icon which is always located on the very first page (bottom left corner)

Note: if the content of the book is not yet uploaded to your pen, you need to first download the book content (see separate FAQ)

Using the stickers

How do I record onto a sticker?

There is detailed instructions in your sticker set

In short: it is very quick and only requires your pen and a sticker

Step 1: Touch the 'Recording' icon on the sticker (red circle)

Step 2: After you hear a 'beep', touch the 'OK' icon on the sticker and start recording

Step 3: After you finish recording, touch the 'OK' icon again

Step 4: Touch the 'Play' icon (green circle) to listen to your recording

How do I play back the recording on a sticker?

Simply touch with your pen the 'Play' (green circle) icon on your sticker

Is there a time limit for recordings on the sticker?

There is no recording time limit for a sticker, as long as your pen has memory left, your sticker recording can have any length.

So you can record a full page or even several pages of book content onto one sticker. But please keep in mind the user experience of your child. It might be better to have several shorter stickers so that your child can navigate and control the content better

Can I re-use stickers by deleting and then uploading new recordings?

Yes, you can delete and re-record sticker content as often as you want, please see the detailed instructions (basically you repeat the recording instructions)

To avoid accidental deletes while your child is using the sticker we suggest to cut out the 'Play' icon on your sticker and only stick this one to the objects you want to bring to life

Orders and after-care

How long does it take for my order to arrive?

At this point we only ship within Australia and use Australia post

We commit to process and ship out your order within a maximum of 3 working days. We cannot control the shipping time of Australia post, please refer to their website for standard times

Can I buy Tolki in normal stores or just online?

You can buy Tolki online and in selected stores, where you can also experience and test Tolki

At the moment, we exclusively partner with 'Young Bondi' which is located in Bondi Beach. Once we have more store partners we will add a 'store locator' feature on this website

Can I return my Tolki order?

We have a 14-day return policy, which means you have 14 days after receiving your item to request a return. To be eligible for a return, your Tolki item must be in the same condition that you received it, and in its original packaging. Unfortunately we are not able to process refunds if your Tolki item has been opened/unboxed.

To start a return, you can contact us at info@tolkipen.com.au. If your return is accepted, we will send you instructions on how and where to send your package to complete the return. Shipping costs - both original and return - are borne by the buyer and will be deducted from your refund amount.

Please allow 3-5 business days after your return has been received back at our warehouse for it to be processed and your refund issued.

If your product has an issue when it arrives, please contact us within 7 days of delivery with a description and 2-3 photos of the issue on info@tolkipen.com.au so we can make things right!

My pen does not work properly. What should I do?

If the damage happens later, please contact us and again, describe the issue and send a few pictures. We will replace defect pens as long as the defect does not stem from improper use of the product
